SBC CALL TO PRAYER - SEPTEMBER
Greetings,
". . . but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at My word." – Isaiah 66:2
CALL TO THE SBC TO PRAY & FAST FOR REVIVAL IN THE CHURCH AND A SPIRITUAL AWAKENING AMONG THE LOST MASSES
1st Thursday of each month – September 4
Several times in Scripture, God reveals that He is looking for someone to stand in the gap:
-
"My eyes run to and fro throughout all the earth, looking. . ."
-
"I sought for a man to stand in the gap, but I found none. . ."
-
"And He saw that there was no man. . ."
God is still looking. "This is the man to whom I will look," He says. He describes the one He looks upon with favor—not those who are wayward, in sin, or living contrary to Him—but those who do what is right in His sight. Three marks are given: poor and of a contrite spirit, and one who trembles at His Word.
This truth echoes throughout Scripture: “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise.” (Psalm 51:17). The Word of God has been given, and those who truly fear the Lord tremble before Him, for “it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
For decades, I have heard this question asked of the church and of our nation: “Is there any fear of the Lord anymore?” T.W. Hunt reminded me often, “Dan, don’t ever forget the remnant. God always has a remnant.” Blessed is that remnant, marked by these three qualities: broken (poor in spirit), contrite (sorrowful over iniquity), and trembling (fearing the Lord and His Word). Are you and I among those whom God can look upon and say, “I have found a man after My own heart”? Do you strive to maintain these marks in your walk with Him? Few embody this today, but God still has His remnant.
In these days of rising evil, when holiness and obedience to God’s will and Word are vanishing from the lives of men, we need the Lord to look upon us with favor. Scripture directs us:
-
“Looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith.”
-
“Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
-
“We would see Jesus.”
These verses speak of us looking to Him—but Isaiah 66:2 reminds us that revival begins when God looks to us, because He finds us broken, contrite, and trembling at His Word. That Word is so powerful it pierces soul and spirit, joints and marrow, discerning the thoughts and intents of the heart. How then can we neglect it? How can the church treat it so lightly? These are the old paths, and we are commanded to walk in them.
Yet in this generation, what God seeks is being lost. Worship music abounds, but often the Word of God is diminished. Keith Green once sang, “My eyes are dry . . .” Should we not weep? We ought to be broken and contrite as we see abominations flourishing, sin abounding, and evil increasing. We ought to be broken over the loss of the power and presence of the Holy Spirit in our churches. We ought to be broken over prayer being reduced to a mere religious act on Sundays, while the secret closet of prayer lies neglected and covered in cobwebs.
A familiar prayer is: “Lord, break our hearts with what breaks Yours.” It is a right petition, yet where is the true brokenness today?
Only a revival of God’s manifest presence can restore what has been lost. The substitutes we have relied upon will fade when He comes. He will renew His people with His strength and fill us afresh with His Spirit. “Revive us again, O Lord; fill each heart with Thy love; may each soul be rekindled with fire from above.”
The Apostle Paul declared, “I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision.” Let this also be our testimony. During these days of prayer and fasting—on the first Thursday of each month—may there be a corporate, collective gathering of churches, groups, and faithful soldiers of Christ, doing the very things God says He looks for.
Brethren, does God look to you?
Until,

Greetings,
". . . but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at My word." Isaiah 66:2
CALL TO SBC TO PRAY & FAST FOR REVIVAL FOR THE CHURCH & A SPIRITUAL AWAKENING AMONG THE LOST MASSES. - 1ST Thursday of each month - September 4
Several times in Scripture God is looking for someone to stand in the gap.
"My eyes run to and fro throughout all the earth, lookin. . ."
"I sought for a man to stand in the gap, but I found non one. . . "
"And He saw that there was no man. . ."
God is still looking. "This is the man that I will look to", God says. He is describing the man He will look to with favor. He is not looking to them, because they are wayward, or in sin, or living life contrary to Him. But He looks to them, because they are doing that which is right in His sight. Three things are marked as right, "that is poor and of a contrite spirit and trembleth at My word." A phrase that has been mentioned several other times in passages of Scripture, "that God honors the broken and contrite soul." The word of God has been given and they fear the Lord and tremble before Him, for "it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of a mighty God."
For decades I have heard this question being asked of the church and of our nation, "Is there any fear of the Lord any more?" TW Hunt told me repeatedly, "Dan, don't ever forget the remnant. God always has a remnant." Bless that remnant that is found with these 3 marks: broke, poor in spirit; contrite, sorrowful over inqiuity; and trembleth, fears the Lord and the Word of the Lord. Are you and I such ones that God looks upon us and says, "I have found Me a man after My Own heart"? Do you strive and maintain these marks in your walk with God? It is a hard thing to find today; but God has His remnant.
In such times as we are living, where evil is increasing, and holiness and the ways, will and Word of God are lessening in the minds, hearts and lives of men, we need the Lord to look to us. We have those directives of God:
--"looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith";
--"Behold the Son of God, that taketh away the sin of the world":
--"we would see Jesus"
But this is men looking for God. This verse for our hope, help and healing is found in God looking upon us. Because we are found broken, contrite and trembling at His Word. A Word that is so powerful, that it separates soul & spirit, join & marrow and a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart." How can a Christian or church abandon the Word of God? How can we be so trite with it? These are the old paths, and we are to walk in them.
In this generation, we are losing this which God says He look to. There is so much worship music, that the Word of God often is forfeited. Keith Green sang a song, "My eyes are dry. . " We should be broken and contrite as we see all these abominaiotns flourishing and sin abounding and evil increasing. We should be broken and contrite over the loss of power & Presence of the Holy Ghost in our church services. We should broken and contrite over prayer being reduced a traditional, religious act each Sunday. While secret closets have cob webs growing over them. A familar petition in the prayer meeting is, "Lord, break our hearts with what breaks Yours." It is a right petition, but we see little brokenness today.
Revival of God's Manifest Presence will restore this which we have lost. Ways and means that have substitue these things for which God look for, with lesser things, will be removed. We will be filled afresh and renewed in our strength with Him and for Him. "Revive us again, O Lord; fill each heart with Thy love; may each sould be rekindled with fire from above."
The Apostle Paul stated, "I was not disobedient to the heavenly calling." Let this be our testimony and witness. That during these days of prayer and fasting on the 1st Thursday of each month, that there will be corporate, collective gathering of groups, churches, soliders found doing these things that God looks to.
Brethren, does God look to you?
Until,
