SBC - AUGUST

Greetings,
"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up." — James 4:10

1st Thursday of each month — A Call to Prayer & Fasting for the Southern Baptist Convention

Our two main prayer focuses for this sacred time are:

  1. Revival within the Church

  2. A spiritual awakening among the lost masses

The Christian life is built on humility. Pride is a deep-rooted sin—rampant in our society, our homes, and even in our churches. A true self-examination of our walk with Christ often reveals how pride keeps resurfacing, even after repentance. We see pride flaunted in every corner of society, but the one place it should never be found is in the Church—especially not in the pulpit.

When revival comes, it will require that pride be crucified. Each of us must cast it away, that we may truly humble ourselves before our Lord and before one another. True humility is honored by God. But we do not humble ourselves to be lifted up. No—we humble ourselves so that the will of God might be done in and through us, as He alone sees fit. "Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?" Yes, He always does!

Too many seek rewards, recognition, and approval from others. But the command remains: “Humble yourselves in His sight.” David prayed, “Search me, O God… and see if there be any wicked way in me.” Especially, Lord, expose that deadly root of pride—the one that shifts our focus inward or outward, instead of upward. Quicken us by Your Spirit. Teach us to be truly humble in Your holy Presence. That we may declare: I am nothing, but You are everything. I am abased, but You are exalted; I am lowly, but You are high and lifted up, whose Name is Holy.

We are living in desperate times—but are we desperate for God? We’ve become self-reliant, fixing, building, and achieving without the Lord. We are increased in goods, yet spiritually bankrupt. The signs of national decline are flashing in bright red—yet so few see. Evil is multiplying. The work of the Church is faltering. Now more than ever, we must be desperate for the power and Presence of God. And this desperation is expressed in humble hearts that pray and fast before Him.

In just July 2025 alone, 7 police officers were shot and killed across our nation. I remember when a full year might see 1 or 2 such tragedies. Now, we’ve seen 42 already—and are on pace for another record-breaking year. Evil is rising at a staggering rate. Shouldn’t this stir in us a desperate cry: “O Lord, help us!” Alan Redpath once said the prayer meetings of the Church have lost the "O"—the deep groan of the soul.

And if this warning wasn't enough, consider the growing plague of murder-suicides, primarily domestic. In July alone, the rate surged to two per day. Every state and county is being touched. Soon, every city, every family, every church will feel its impact. And what can we do about it? Nothing—not by government, not by denominations, not by our own strength. Only God—in His fullness—can intervene.

Humble! We cannot change these things. But You, O Lord—with You, all things are possible.

We have mastered doing life without God. But when it comes to the lostness of souls and the rising tide of evil, we are helpless without Him. We need God—and we need Him now. Our strategies and systems will fail. Only His way will stand. And what is His way?

"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up"—for His will, His ways, and His kingdom.

Join us on these first Thursdays for prayer and fasting, that the Lord may be entreated, and that He may meet us in power as we serve Him in these critical days.

Until,

Greetings,
"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up." James 4:10

1st Thursday of each month is a call for SBC to prayer & fasting
Our two prayer focuses for this corporate praying is for revival to come to the church; and a spiritual awakening to come to the lost masses.

The Christian life is to be found in humility. Pride is a major root of sin in our society, homes and even in the church. Our own introspection of our Christian walk, finds this root of sin prevailing and seemingly a constant return after it has been uprooted and confessed. WE see pride everywhere among men. But the one place we are not to find it is in the church. It is not to be in our pulpits. Revival when it comes, will task each of us to put pride in it place - away from us and the church. To be humble before our Lord, to be humble among our brethren and the spirit of that humiliation is rewarded by God. We do not become humble so that we might receive the last half of this verse, so that we might be lifted up by God. but we humble ourselves, that the will of the Lord might be done as He sees fit. "Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?" Yes He does!

Far too many seek the earthly rewards, accolades, honors to be bestowed by our peers, others, the world. But we read and hear the command of our Lord, "Humble yourselves in His sight". David wrote it, "Search me and cause me to know if there be any wicked way in me. . . " and especially reveal that wicked root of pride that causes me to look to me, to myself, to others rather than looking to my God. Quicken me in Your Spirit O Lord and teach me and cause me to be humble in Your Presence. That I am nothing, but You are everything. I am abased, but Your are exalted; I am lowly, but your high and lifted up Whose Name is Holy.

We live in these days of desperation, but we are not desperate for God. We've learned to fix thiugns, do things and make things; we are increased in everything and have no need of anything or any one, not even God. But the hour of our nation reveals to us, that we are sinking faster than what many want to believe. Wickedness and evil is abounding and the work of His church is languishing. We should be desperate for God to move and work in His power and Presence. This desperation comes out of those that are praying and fasting and being humble before Him.

Just last month, July, 2025, we saw 7 police officers shot and killed in our nation. I can remember years ago, that we could go a whole year and only hear or know of 1 or 2 being killed. But now we are at 42 officers killed and on pace for another record of over 70 in our nation. Evil is reaching epidemic status. Should this not cause us to be despearte for His Divine Presence and help? Should this not be our prayers, "O Lord, help us"? Alan Redpath stated, 'the prayer meetings of the church has lost the "O" in them".

And if the police officers were not a huge warning of our present plight and condition, consider the epidemic of murder-suicides; which is largely domestic. Just last month, they have reached 2 per day. This has already impacted every state and county. It will soon be upon every city, every family and every church. Desperate to stop this rise and surge of evil; we cannot do anything about it. Government can't fix it, denominations and religion cant help; we need God in His fullness.

Humble! we can't do anything; yet You, O Lord, with You, all things are possible.

We've learned how to do so much without God. But these issues and the lostness of humanity we can't do anything about it. We need God! Time is an issue, we desperatley need Him now! All of our means, methods and madness will not avail, only the way of God will prevail. What is that?
"Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up" for His will and His ways and His kingdom come. Join us for these days of prayer and fasting that the Lord may be intreated and meet us as we serve Him.

Until,
