SBC Letter for Prayer & Fasting - June 5
Greetings,
"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses. . . " Hebrews 12:1
The call for prayer & fasting across SBC is still being submitted to many parts of SBC life. The 1st Thursday of each month, you are being asked to set aside time to fast and pray for revival to come to SBC churches, the church as a whole; and to pray for spiritual awakening to come to those lost and without Christ. Join us! be a part of this and encourage others to join in your respective places of service and leadership to be a part of this call for us to seek the Lord for what only the Lord can do.
Consider this phrase out Hebrews 12:1! We are entailed with this great cloud of heavenly hosts. We see this also in II Kings with the prophet Elisha. As the king of Syria had sent his army to take Elisha, for he was telling the king of Israel where the enemy was to be found. Elisha is sitting on the hill top, unfazed, calm; no fear, no anxiety. But his servant was a mess. Fretting at the army approaching and surrounding them. Until Elisha prayer for the servants eyes to be open. And when they are opened they see this heavenly hosts armed and ready to help and defend the prophet of the Lord.
Marie Monsen wrote of her experiences in China as as missionary. She was a catalyst for the revival of Shantung. Two of our beloved SBC servants were there, Dr. Culpepper and Bertha Smith when that great move of God unleashed upon them and then the community with the missionaries and churches. But she was taken hostage by a group of pirates. She stayed her faith upon this heavenly hosts surrounded, protecting and helping her. She used the Name of God, "the Lord of hosts", the heavenly hosts. They are assembled and watching and intervening as God so permits and allows.
The SBC will meet at Dallas next week. Many from SBC life will be attending. What would this heavenly hosts say if we could hear them? What would they bid His church to do? We know what they would not say. They would not tell us to be carnal, worldly, fleshly, lethargic in our service for His kingdom, or apathetic to the plight of eternity for billions of lost souls. They would not tell us to casual with our disciplines to Him and for Him. They would tell us to be holy; be faithful; be righteous; be those that are pleasing to God Almighty. They would tell us that when God's eyes run to and fro throughout all the earth, He would be able to stop upon those that call themselves Southern Baptist to those that He can work through and use for His will and ways.
May you that attend the SBC lift your eyes up and look around that hall and focus to see the heavenly hosts that compasses. Oh, how much God wants to have a people unto Himself for His kingdom and Names sake. Let us give time June 5 to fast and pray and make ourselves ready for Pentecost Sunday. Let us pray for one another to experience the fullness of manifest Presence. Our world, nation, families and communities needs the power and Presence of the Holy Ghost. Let us bind together to be a part of that which God honors and blesses as we fast and pray for Him to show us His glory.
Will you join us on the 1st Thursday of each month for this special call to pray and fast?
Until,

Greetings,
"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses. . . " Hebrews 12:1
The call for prayer and fasting across the SBC is continuing to reach many areas of SBC life. On the first Thursday of each month, you are encouraged to set aside time to fast and pray—specifically, to ask for revival in our SBC churches, in the Church at large, and for a spiritual awakening among those who are lost and without Christ.
Join us! Be part of this movement and encourage others in your place of service and leadership to join in as well. Let us seek the Lord for what only the Lord can do.
Consider this phrase from Hebrews 12:1: "We are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses." These are the heavenly hosts, the faithful who have gone before us. A similar scene unfolds in 2 Kings, when the prophet Elisha is pursued by the army of the king of Syria for revealing their plans to the king of Israel.
As the enemy surrounds them, Elisha sits calmly on the hill—without fear or anxiety. But his servant is overwhelmed, terrified by the sight of the approaching army. Then Elisha prays that the servant’s eyes would be opened—and when they are, he sees the heavenly host, mighty and ready to defend the servant of the Lord.
Missionary Marie Monsen shared similar accounts during her time in China. She was a catalyst for the Shantung Revival, where two of our beloved SBC servants, Dr. Culpepper and Bertha Smith, also witnessed a powerful move of God that transformed churches and communities.
At one point, Marie was taken hostage by pirates. Yet she remained steadfast, trusting in the presence of that heavenly host around her. She called upon the Name of God—“the Lord of hosts.” That same host surrounds and protects us even now, intervening as God permits.
The SBC will meet in Dallas next week. Many from across SBC life will attend. Imagine—what would this heavenly host say if we could hear them? What would they urge His Church to do?
We know what they would not say. They would not tell us to be carnal, worldly, fleshly, lethargic, or apathetic toward the eternity of billions of lost souls. They would not urge us to be casual in our disciplines or lukewarm in our service to the King.
Instead, they would call us to be holy, faithful, righteous—a people pleasing to God Almighty. They would remind us that when God's eyes roam throughout the earth (2 Chronicles 16:9), He is seeking those through whom He can accomplish His will. May He find such vessels among those who call themselves Southern Baptists.
To those attending the SBC: lift your eyes and see the heavenly host surrounding you. God desires a people set apart for His kingdom and His Name’s sake. Let us set aside June 5 to fast and pray as we prepare our hearts for Pentecost Sunday. Let us pray for one another, that we might encounter the fullness of His manifest Presence. Our world, our nation, our families, and our communities desperately need the power and presence of the Holy Ghost.
Let us bind together in prayer and fasting—seeking the Lord for His glory to be revealed.
Will you join us on the first Thursday of each month for this special call to prayer and fasting?
Until,
