SBC PRAYER & FASTING - JUNE 5
Greetings,
"Whither shall we go up?" Deuteronomy 1:28
Moses, the servant of the Lord, declared the murmuring of the children of Israel against God. The spies had gone into the Promised Land and searched it out, only to return with a discouraging report—stoking fear and doubt that they would not be able to take the land or conquer their enemies. Only Caleb and Joshua faithfully declared that they would be able to do so, because God was with them. But in the midst of this fury of complaints and murmuring against God, the people asked, "Whither shall we go up?"
One cannot do anything without the Lord. Often, men do not know where to look or whom to trust. But we, as the Church, know to look unto Jesus and to trust in the Lord. He brings us up by the way He would have us go. His will and His ways are always right. Many are searching for answers, direction, and divine help to know which way to go. There is no better place to turn than before the Lord. Ask, and it shall be given; seek, and ye shall find—He will show the way.
The SBC will be going up to Dallas for its annual meeting in June, gathering together for fellowship and to conduct business. I’ve been a Southern Baptist for almost 50 years. I’ve attended meetings where major direction was set for the Convention. After this meeting, the question remains: Where shall we go up?
There are always those at pivotal moments in their walk with God, uncertain of their next steps. The state of the Church should always be before us. I mention the SBC not just for its name, but because it represents the Bride of Christ—the Church, the body of believers. And in this meeting as well, the question stands: "Where shall we go up?"
Decisions will be made that impact the Kingdom of Christ. Choices will move individuals either forward in their pursuit of God or further away from Him. We often fail to grasp just how fragile time and people truly are. Yet we must understand that God longs to move and work in the midst of such corporate gatherings. There could be no more divine moment than if God were to come down in His manifest Presence upon the assembly in Dallas. And when men ask, "Whither shall we go up?" may the answer come from the spiritual giants and the wise-hearted: "Let us go up before the Lord."
“Let us call for the ministers of the Lord to weep and howl before the throne of God. For who knows if He will turn and repent and leave a blessing behind Him.”
Leonard Ravenhill once said, "If you have God, you don't need anything else; but if you don't have God, then you need everything else."
The call to prayer and fasting is a call to take hold of the horns of the altar and not let go until God hears and answers. It is believing and understanding that God desires to work through His people even more than they desire for Him to do so.
Let us go up into our secret closets, pray, and ask Him for the fullness of His divine Presence. Let each individual set aside time to be much before the Lord—for Him to do what only He can do. Set the trumpet to your mouth and sound the call to your brethren and the churches: assemble, fast, and pray for the Lord to divinely pour out His Spirit.
Then, when we gather in Dallas, may the Lord honor the broken and contrite, and pour Himself out upon those assembled. This is why we have called for the first Thursday of each month to be a day of prayer and fasting—that revival might come upon His people. And out of that powerful filling, we will rise up and go—near and far, into the highways and byways, into the farthest reaches of the nations—to declare the gospel of Christ to all people. And we will see a great harvest of souls reaped, because we knew where we were to go—to Him.
"The hour is late, the need is great; pray so as to prevail."
You are invited to join this call to prayer and fasting on the first Thursday of each month. We are seeking together for revival to come to His Church and for a great awakening among the lost masses of our nation, our communities, our families, and across the globe.
“This kind can come forth by nothing but prayer and fasting.”
Will you join us?
Until,
Dan Biser
