Prayer & Fasting for schools

 Greetings,

I know your schedules are busy and full. Though I had hoped to hear from some of you, I have not received a word from any. Your responsibilities are immense and, no doubt, very time-consuming. Over the past several years, I have sought to work with you all as best as possible. I have also reached out to your second-in-command—those who serve as a buffer and support to you in facing the challenges before you.

There is a great lapse in prayer among the SBC. Almost all of our schools lack an emphasis on prayer in our seminary campuses, and there are few, if any, classes dedicated to teaching students about the prayer life they should cultivate. These calls to the SBC for prayer and fasting are so that God might accomplish through us what we cannot do on our own for His kingdom. A great move of God is sorely needed in this hour within SBC life, and it cannot be obtained by anything less than prayer and fasting.

Thus, I write to you once again regarding a call to prayer and fasting for SBC life on April 3, 2025. Our desire is to pray for a real revival to fall upon the church and for a spiritual awakening among the lost masses of our nation and the world. A key focus of this prayer on April 3 will be our six seminaries, as well as you, the leadership, to be prayed over and lifted up. We encourage fasting that day—whether from food or drink—to die to self and seek to be filled with the fullness of God. Surely, you desire that such a statement might be said of your faculty, student body, and campus members: "I perceive that this is a holy man of God that passes among us." How can they be holy men and women of God if they are never alone with Him? "Be still, and know that I am God."

I ask you to make your student body and faculty aware of this call to prayer and fasting. On the first Thursday of each month, we will continue to seek and wait before the Lord for His mercy and divine help. Set the agenda as you see fit. We are doing this together. Each state convention, each SBC entity, and each SBC association is being called to reach out to their respective churches for this time of prayer and fasting. May they be encouraged and blessed to hear that you are making it a priority.

My prayers continue for each of your campuses, for our SBC life, and for the kingdom of God to come and His will to be done in each of us. For the glory of His great name, let us obey. May it be said of us, as the Apostle Paul declared, "I was not disobedient unto the heavenly calling."

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. But please let me know that you are setting aside the first Thursday in the last two months of your school year and semester to join all of SBC life in this commitment.
