INVITE TO SBC EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE FOR DAY OF PRAYER

 Greetings,

I know that the executive meeting in Nashville is coming up next week. I realize your dockets are full, with many pressing matters that need to be addressed in just a few days—legal, financial, and strategic decisions all rest on your shoulders.

I am writing as a gentle reminder that the SBC Executive Committee is tasked with promoting, planning, and preparing the SBC community to be engaged in prayer. Unfortunately, very little is being done in this area.

Once again, I urge you to consider the following suggestions:

  1. Call for a monthly day of fasting and prayer. This initiative would cost nothing beyond promotional materials to encourage SBC members to fast and pray on the first Thursday of each month. The focus would be on seeking a real revival in the church and a spiritual awakening for the lost.

  2. Support prayer conferences and assemblies. For nearly 20 years, I have been led by the Lord to set up, lead, and host prayer conferences. We previously hosted the Broken Before the Throne Prayer Conferences, which lasted eight days, nine hours per day, with multiple speakers. Due to COVID, scheduling constraints, and expenses, we transitioned these to livestream events lasting one to three days, under the title A Call for a Solemn Assembly.

God calls us to be a people of prayer and to establish houses of prayer. To that end, I have set aside February 22 as a day of focused prayer, featuring five speakers emphasizing the priority and necessity of prayer. Additionally, I have attached a letter urging pastors and SBC leadership to encourage churches to dedicate 15 minutes during their worship services on February 23 for corporate prayer.

Later this week—probably Friday—I will send another letter with a flyer promoting this effort, along with a suggested pattern and focus for our prayer time.

I ask the SBC Executive Committee to join this call by setting aside time for prayer and fasting and by encouraging the people to do the same. Can you imagine 40,000 churches and nearly five million worshippers crying out in unison on Sunday morning, pleading with God not to pass us by, but to manifest His divine presence and revive us again? "Fill each heart with Thy love, may each soul be rekindled with fire from above—Revive us Again."

Below are the letter and flyer.
