"Men ought always to pray and not to faint." — Luke 18:1
How emphatic is this passage from our Lord to His church regarding prayer! It is not about merely going through the motions of religious prayer or vain repetitions, but about real, heartfelt communion with the Lord. A healthy, spiritual prayer life not only enables us to communicate with the God of heaven and earth—the Divine Trinity—but also allows Him to communicate with His children. The instruction is clear: "Call to Me, and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you do not know" (Jeremiah 33:3). As His servants, we are to give time and ear to hear Him, as exemplified by David's words: "Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening" (1 Samuel 3:10). Sometimes, His guidance is revealed through moments of stillness: "Be still, and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10).
Prayer is not simply "saying prayers"; it is prevailing in prayer to see the Lord advance His kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. Through prayer, we seek to drive back the forces of hell, to defeat the evil invading our land, homes, and the minds and hearts of people. History reveals that the greatest movements of God have always been accompanied by fervent, prevailing prayer. Yet today, many churches, pastors, and leaders confess that their prayer lives are lacking. We find ourselves at a critical moment in history, a moment where God can move mightily through His church—if it truly becomes a house of prayer. "When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:8).
Today is an invitation for the SBC (Southern Baptist Convention) to reflect on the state of our prayer lives. We have long been known as "a people of the Book." But can we also be known as "houses of prayer" and "people of prayer"? Each of today's speakers has been asked to share from their personal journey in prayer. They will also present specific prayer targets for the SBC—areas in which we can unite in prayer. We claim the promise of God: "If two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven" (Matthew 18:19). Let us not miss out or dismiss this vital invitation to return to prayer, deepen our relationship with God, and grow in the power that He honors, hears, and blesses.
We ask that this day, set aside for prayer, be dedicated to lifting up the SBC and all its ministries and functions. Let us pray:
  • For the pulpits
  • For the people in the pews
  • For missionaries
  • For laborers to be raised up
  • For the church and its witness
  • For this generation and the next
  • For SBC entities and leadership on all levels—national, state, associational, and local
These matters require time and dedication to be covered thoroughly in prayer. This is not a call to prayer for just a few hours and listen to a few speakers talk on prayer; but a call to establish a perpetual, consistent, and vibrant prayer life before the Lord. We should not rush into God's presence simply to unload all our cares and requests, but rather take time to listen for the Spirit's guidance on how and what to pray.
During this live stream, the speakers will share how God has worked in their lives through the power of prayer. Our desire is to see the SBC grow in its commitment to prayer. You are invited to participate in this day of prayer and, even more importantly, to cultivate a deeper relationship with God in your personal prayer life. After February 22, may we continue to set days of prayer and fasting before the Lord. This should happen in our own secret closets before the Lord; set times among our churches and for associations and state conventions to have set times of prayer before the Lord. Let us also gather with other churches and brethren for regular, intentional times of prayer for our communities, churches, and homes.
Be deliberate in praying for our Lord's kingdom to come and His will to be done.
Blessings,
Until,
Dan Biser
