100 HOURS OF PRAYER FOR END OF YEAR - 2024
Greetings,
"Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord your God and cry unto the Lord," — Joel 1:14
As we find ourselves in the midst of preparations and celebrations for Christmas, it is right and fitting to rejoice in this season. Advent holds deep meaning for us as Christians, reminding us to continually remember and praise God for sending His Son, the Christ, our Savior and Lord, in such a miraculous and powerful way. Yet, as Christmas passes, the new year approaches. Let us take a moment to reflect on how we will finish this year and begin the next.
It is always my personal desire and prayer for the church that we finish strong and well so that we may start strong and sure, all for His glory and honor.
Over the past year, many have stumbled and fallen. Some have departed from the faith, while others have struggled with inconsistency in their walk with Christ. This is not what the Lord desires, nor is it pleasing to Him. We must not neglect to pray for these individuals, lifting up His bride before Him, that He may descend upon us with power and His presence. Through His grace, "He may keep us from falling" and "present His bride perfect" and secure.
This past year has brought numerous battles, both within and without. We have faced struggles, trials, heartaches, and assaults from the enemy. Yet in all things, God has been faithful. We rallied in prayer for one another and for pastors and churches facing increased challenges. God was faithful. We prayed against the rise in car accidents and fatalities across our six counties, and God was faithful. We took opportunities to minister in the local middle school, warring against evil in classrooms, homes, and the hearts and minds of children. God remains faithful.
We have also endured drought conditions, yet God has shown mercy, ensuring we do not go without water. Time and again, God has taught us to see and recognize physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Through earnest warfare on our knees—whether in private closets or corporate, unified prayer—God is faithful.
As we enter a new year, we do not know what it may hold. Yet, as the old hymn declares, "I know Who holds tomorrow." We must remain diligent, obedient, and vigilant, as God has called us to be watchmen for our cities, churches, streets, homes, and communities. Praying directionally—north, south, east, and west—and for near and far needs, we trust Him to guide our prayers.
You are invited to gather with the saints to pray continuously over these matters. Let us thank God for what He has done, is doing, and will do. Let us fast and pray for a greater outpouring of His Spirit upon the churches, that we may experience true revival. Let us come before Him, praying for His desire that none should perish and that none should stray from Him. Let us intercede for the lost, that they might find salvation in Christ.
If you are able, take a 15-minute segment to pray. For those unfamiliar or struggling with how to pray for that length of time, here is a guide:
1. Worship (First 5 Minutes)
Spend time giving God thanks and praise for His answered prayers and blessings over the past year. Recount His names, attributes, and the Scriptures that declare His great works in creation and salvation. Worship focuses solely on Who God is and what He has done—without asking for anything.
2. Confession (Next 5 Minutes)
Bring specific sins before the Lord. Remember His promise that "He is faithful to forgive us when we confess our sins." Confess personal sins, family sins, and the failures of the church, asking for cleansing, purification, and renewal. Seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance to reveal areas of disobedience, neglect, and intent contrary to His ways.
3. Petitions/Supplications/Intercession (Final 5 Minutes)
Pray for true revival in the churches, that God's manifest presence would be experienced among His people. Intercede for the lost in your community, families, schools, and beyond. Pray against evils such as addiction, violence, and accidents. Bring specific physical, emotional, and spiritual needs before the Lord. Pray for His protection and intervention in the battles we face.
These suggestions are simply guides for those who may need structure in their prayers. Follow the leading of the Spirit as you intercede for our churches and community.
