100 HOURS OF PRAYER - DEC. 2023
Greetings,
"Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do?" Acts 9:6
"And He said unto her, What wilt Thou?" Matthew 20:21
"And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I
shall do unto you?" Matthew 20:32
"When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that
case, He saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?" John 5:6
In the book of Acts, Saul has
been confronted by the Lord Jesus on the road to Damascus. Upon hearing Who is
speaking to him, Saul seeks instructions from the Lord, "What would You
have me do?" How often Saul, later his name turned to Paul, would ask that
same question before the Lord, 'Lord, where would You have me go? To whom would
You have me speak? what would you have me do?' A surrendered Christian is
always seeking to be obedient in all things of our spiritual walk. We too, will
be found asking this same question, that we may be found in His will and ways.
Perhaps, it would be a good question for us to meditate on before the Lord for
the close of this year. During our 100 hours of prayer, we will be praying this
question before Him. We will also be asking for Him to give us ears to hear
what the Spirit is saying to His church.
The next 3 verses found in
Matthew chapter 20, and in John 5; is Christ asking those before Him, “What
would You have Me do?" What a contrast for us to consider. The first, man
asking God ‘what would You have me do?’ Second, Christ asking us, ‘What would
you have Me do?’ It would seem obvious that the blind man and lame man, would
desire to be healed. Yet Christ still stops before them and asks the question.
They affirm to Him, "Lord, I would be made whole from my infirmity."
During prayer requests or sharing concerns for prayer in our churches, it is
well over 90% of physical needs for healing that are voiced. We are given a
directive and promise by the Lord to "make our requests known unto
Him." As much as the physical needs are important and much on our hearts,
we would do well to increase and balance the spiritual issues that are upon us
and all around us. It is a hard thing to find among corporate prayer groups,
those that engage in spiritual warfare. Those that are 'taking captive thoughts
& tearing down strongholds' are asking both sides of this question, 'Lord,
what will You have me/us do?" They are answering the Lord's question,
"What would you have Me do?" They are praying for Him to give
victory, for deliverance and for His power to mightily show forth for His honor
and glory.
This year has been a year of
Divine visitation. From the days of Asbury, back in February and March, then
upon the college campuses the wind of the Spirit has come. The rise in God's
manifest Presence among church gatherings and increase in baptisms has been
testified. We have had a blessed year in the Spirit of the Lord. A word was
given throughout this whole year, to seek more before the Lord for His favor
and outpouring as we continued to hear and see the great things of God across
our nation. Now, at the end of the year, many of these testimonies are starting
to die out. The wind of the Spirit is lifting and removing, I fear. Many have
left off the prayer and cry, 'Pass me not, O gentle Savior; hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling, please God don't pass us by.' Record number
of baptisms may also be the testimony for 2023 in our churches. We rejoice in
all this! But do not forget those at the close of this year lamenting, 'the
harvest is past, the summer is ended and we are not yet saved'.
Why have this 100 Hours of
Prayer? Because our Lord's work is not done. There are many projects, many
plans, and many petitions for the new year, but this one thing must come forth
- PRAY. And don’t just pray; but pray so as to prevail! We must still
seek to be houses of prayer and to become a people of prayer. The evil of our
day continues to set record, historic stats of death and dying and destruction.
The judgements of God are still very active upon our land, homes, streets and
churches. We desperately need a fuller outpouring of REVIVAL upon the church.
Always answering the question, 'What can we do if the Lord is not among us?'
And knowing how much can be done, 'when we are filled and our cups overflowing
with the Spirit'.
During this 100 hours of prayer,
we are inviting you to join us by signing up for 15 minute time slots. There
will be 2, 100 Hours of Prayer going on simultaneously. One for our local
churches and prayer partners, as we have done this for many years. Secondly,
one for SBC 100 Hours of Prayer. I understand that some will overlap between
the two groups. But I will do my best to get the right 100 Hours of Prayer sign
up sheet into the right email lists. Your help will be appreciated. Some
of you will be active in both groups. That is fine! Some sign up for the empty
time slots to help fill it. That is greatly appreciated. Make sure you sign up
and send to others to be a part of this needed hours of praying.
Our 3 prayer targets that we will
be praying in agreement for the following:
1. REVIVAL FOR HIS CHURCH - rejoicing for all that we have heard
and seen God do in 2023, this year still does not match some of the great
revivals of days gone by; pray for Him to pour out more upon us. Praying and
hoping that 2023 was a prelude, of the greater revival and awakening of our
lost nation (s) in 2024. We cannot do anything without God. Lifting up a great
cry, "Lord, don't pass us by. Show us Your glory Lord".
2. A PRAYER FOR THE BRIDE OF
CHRIST - with each
passing year, my heart hurts more for the church. A desire that the bride of
Christ would be that which is ready, pure, white and holy for His return. This
past year will be remembered as more and more pastors, leaders which had to be
removed for great sins in their ministry. Greater issues facing the church to
grow and finish the kingdom's work.
Realizing that the church is under great attack by the enemy, let us pray for
deliverance, overcoming and victory. As the directive comes, 'Pray one for
another'; that there is a cry for His church, His servants and our brothers and
sisters that are in great need of help, hope and healing.
3. SPIRITUAL WARFARE - since I mentioned earlier, I would
submit it to you that we may come into agreement against the rise of evil in
our day. On our watch, in our generation, evil has come in like a flood (Isaiah
59:19) Minds are evil affected, perversions are increasing, evil is flourishing
and lostness by Satan’s lies and deception is still rampant; where is the power
of prayer by the church that stops all this? Does the Word not declare,
'greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world'? Then let us pray
and give evidence that our God is God of heaven and earth.
These 3 prayer targets will be
our focus for our 15 minute time segments. You can pray for each of them 5
minutes each, total of 15 minutes. Or pray for these plus whatever else the
Lord may lead you to cry out to Him for the end of this year and the beginning
of the new year. Not all are finishing well this year. Many have left off, lost
heart and fallen into sin. Confession will need to be added for those brothers
and sisters as well. Let us finish this year well in this 100 Hours of Prayer,
so that we may begin the new year Spirit filled and ready for His leading.
Asking and answering the two questions: "Lord, what would You have me
do?" and answering Him when He asks, 'What would you have Me do?"
If there is any issues or
