100 HOURS OF PRAYER FOR SBC - WHAT'S NEXT

 Greetings,
"Continue in prayer"  - Colossians 4:2
"Prayer without ceasing" - I Thess. 5:17
"I give myself unto prayer" - Psalm 109:4

The seriousness of our hour is much upon us.  And such a condition requires, such a call to protracted & focused prayer, as the 100 Hours of Prayer for SBC.  A nation, right in front of our eyes, that is being given over to 'reprobate minds'.  How often in decades gone by, that I heard preachers preach, and teachers teach, and prayer warriors pray against Romans 1 happening.  Yet now, on my watch, and your watch, it is happening all around us.  On our streets, among our homes, in our churches, and in headlines near and far.  We have left the horrendous remedial judgements of the Lord against our homes, cities, nations and churches and gone on to the next stage - EPIDEMICS.

Epidemics of drugs, natural disasters, LGBT advance, children abused, neglected and targeted; suicides, murder-suicides; police officers shot & killed each week; and a perversion that is unparalleled to what we grew up with or knew.  One difference from remedial judgement to epidemics is cases happening per month, weeks and days; stats that have gone from the 1 & 10's, to the 100's & 1000's.  And although struck with the facts and tragedy of it all, what has the church largely done against such 'evil coming in like a flood' (Isaiah 59)?  Railed against it, frustrated with it, petitioned it to death, tried to politicize it and all to no avail.  For hell has not decreased, nor evil abated on our watch; but it has ravaged throughout the nation and cities.  And the one thing that God and Christ gave us as a weapon, we have largely not used properly.  That weapon of our warfare - PRAYER!

We have seen in one month, from the first of July to the first of August, a call presented and a response for "100 Hours of Prayer for SBC".      If something of this call for prayer for revival, for SBC life, for His kingdom come and His will to be done, can be generated by so many, in so many different aspects of SBC life; how much more?   If under 100 can rise up and pray day and night with importunity, how much more if a 1000 or 10,000 or 100,000 SBC members?  How much more, to reach the prayer groups, the pastors, the associations, and every fiber of SBC life to exercise our weapon of prayer.   How much more to wield the weapon of prayer for victory and a power of overcoming of this flood of evil?  How much more to cause hell to retreat and heaven to advance?  How much more!

Therefore, to answer the question posed to me, 'How do you follow up on such a protracted & focused time of prayer?'  My suggestions:
1.  Continue the call to reach those of SBC life, that were not reached by my feeble attempts;
2.  Declare one day per week, or one day per month to assemble corporately or privately in secret closet and have a day of prayer for our continued need;
3.  Christ declared to the disciples, when they asked Him, 'why could we not cast this demon out?'  And Jesus answered them, "This kind can come forth by nothing but prayer & fasting."  A day of fasting is absolutely necessary.
4.  Solemn Assembly - I am greatly convicted of the need of the church to call for such and come together to hosts and have a solemn assembly among associations, area churches.

These are a few of my answers to that question.  Our local churches and pastors that come together, have hosted these protracted times of prayer for the last several years.  We do it twice a year.  Perhaps also, SBC prayer life should incorporate an annual or semi-annual time of 100 hours of prayer.   Regardless of what may be decided or done, we must 'continue in prayer.'  The day of doing nothing, and waiting for someone else to engage has costs us greatly.  We already have the clear call from our Lord, 'pray'.  Therefore, let us be obedient, and pray.  Thank you once again for joining and being a part of this time of prayer among my beloved SBC!

Who participated:   (a rough estimate, for not everyone contacted me but was reached from other sources)
--4 of our 6 seminaires participated;
--17 state conventions represented (estimate, as best as I could gather);
--only 4 or 5 associational directors/ministers;
--6 state executive directors;
--SBC executive committee represented; SBC officers represented; SBC national prayer director:
--Entities:  LIfeway, IMB,
--corporate gatherings:  SWBTS; Glennwood Baptist Church, TN; Gateway Seminary, faculty meeting; Keyser & Fox's Hollow Baptist Churches, WV (any others, I know not of);

My thanks to each of you that joined us!  Great appreciation to all that helped with aspects of this time of prayer, passing along to others and helping to promote.   I greatly appreciate each of you!

What's next?? - JC Ryle says it best:  "I want the times we live in to be praying times.  I want the Christians of our day to be praying Christians.  I want the church to be a praying church.  My heart's desire and prayer in sending forth his tract is to promote a spirit of prayerfulness.  I want those who never prayed yet, to arise and call upon God, and I want those who do pray, to see that they are not praying amiss."

Until,
