PRAYER EMAIL - MARCH 18

 Greetings,
"For all have sinned & come short of His glory" - Romans 3:23
"lest a promise being left us of entering into His rest, any of you should seem to come short of it."  Hebrews 4:1
"increased not diminished"  Jeremiah 29:6

These phrases have occupied most of my attention this past week in prayer times and meditation.  'Coming short' and this phrase uniquely speaking to me, 'increased not diminished'.  One month ago, I was in Asbury, experiencing the manifest Presence of the Lord.  And since then, all I do is find myself looking up over my shoulder above me to see if He is hoovering in that same fashion.  And that great experience is nothing compared to the other historic revivals of days gone by that reveals His power to lay men low in conviction and conversion.  What is the greatest experience of God's glory that you have seen and experienced?  And that one moment in life, or possibly several times in your life and service to Him, is far superior to all other experiences.   And yet the testimony of many in the churches is that we come short of His glory to often.  IT should be the elevation of rising up in each gathering of corporate worship and prayer to be at one with Him.  But the witness is we are not increased in His glory, but rather diminished in it.

This much we know, it is not what God desires.  He desires to make Himself known to His children.  'All the earth shall be filled with His glory'.  "That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection.'  These are the experiences that are to be increased.  We are to come to His glory and be filled with it.  But this lessening, this coming short of His glory and diminishing from His holiness and Presence has me baffled these days.  The promise is to enter in, not just to enter into His rest of eternity with Him, but so while we remain here, we are to enter into His Presence.  Increased with daily experiences in His Word, in prayer, in service.  Filled as David said, 'my cup runneth over'.  Not with experiences of His power, answered prayers and blessings; though these are great in themselves, for we all rejoice in such.  but enter into Him, His Presence, His Person, His glory.   so much so, that we are more like Moses coming off the mount the 2nd time, 'and he had to put a vail over his face, for the glory of God emanating from him for being in the glory of God.'

The revival that came upon Asbury and the other college campuses, didn't come to the local church assemblies (as of yet).  Why?!  Why should the bride of Christ, His local gatherings, should come short of His glory.   Why should these moments diminish rather than increase?   Why is no one asking this or pursuing this?  John Avant did write a letter, expressing this same concern with Life Action prayer warriors.  So I know its not the whole, but rather the small portion.

Why do we turn around for those that had, in a moment, boasted of conversion and on fire for God; turn around 6 months to 18 months and have to ask, 'what happened to so- and - so?'   why did they come short of His glory?  Why did they diminish, rather than increase?  Its a simple answer; we know it by Scripture;  few are willing in this day of self and sin, to say with John ,'He must increase, but I must decrease.'   How often to ask brothers of their personal devotion times and spiritual disciplines, only to first observe their eye contact break and they look away or down.  Then to hear them stutter, 'i'm not doing so well.'    They come short of His glory; they diminish rather than increase.  Why or how?  It is the daily dying to self that must take place.  How great that sermon by Ian Thomas, "If a seed dies" on dying to self, one that all should listen to.  This world captivates our energy, time and interest.  So prone to be busy, we have forgotten the joy of 'being still and know that I am God'.  We are distracted by flesh, world and ministry and forget to 'come aside and be alone'.   And we have forgotten, "in order to obtain, we must maintain; and if we don't maintain, we shall never obtain.'   Andrew Murray - "be much alone with God'.

Daily alone with Him and in Him, He keeps us from coming short of His glory.  And we return to what's right, 'increasing in Him, rather than diminishing.'  One can get so busy with ministry, with work, with family, with interests and lose on increasing with Him.  Hasn't the testimonies of every saint that was in their last days testified to this:  Billy Graham was asked, 'if you could go back what would you change?  He replied, 'I would be still more, I would pray more'.   Leonard Ravenhill - asked the same question and replied the same response, 'I would pray and seek Him more.'  He loved that phrase in Malachi 2, 'the Lord Whom you seek'.  Seek Him!  and one will not come short of His glory;  Seek Him and you will increase rather than diminish.

These phrases and meditations continue, but I was led to share with you on this.  Isn't it wonderful when He Word speaks in such ways.  Oh, to have ears to hear, what the Spirit is saying!
