PRAYER EMAIL - APRIL 2
Greetings,
"What hath My beloved to do in Mine house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil then thou rejoicest." Jeremiah 11:15
The previous verse in Jeremiah chapter 11, is that of God commanding Jeremiah to not pray for this people any more. And now, in a more detailed reason why, God affirms the dire situation Judah is in. They have continued in rebellion against the Lord. God sending His prophets, rising up early and sending, but they would not hear them, nor obey them. They, God's Own people, are a disobedient people against the Lord. And God further reveals how vile they are. He questions, why they even enter into His house? They enter, but they defile the house of God with their lewdness and unholy practices. Christ came to the temple and said the same thing, 'My house is to be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves.'
The church of Ephesus was in danger of God removing their candlestick in Revelation 2. And the church today has much to answer for as well. But it is this one phrase that stops me in my tracks, especially regarding all that God has been pressing upon me in the term "HOLY'. 'The holy flesh is passed from thee, and when thou doest evil then thou rejoices.' What an awful phrase! One that staggers most of us in our thoughts of how God's people could ever rejoice in evil. A lamenting of those that are so tender in not sinning against the Lord, and not bringing an occasion against the Lord. How does the holy flesh pass from us?
How do we cast off that which is right and good in the sight of the Lord? It is more than just 'the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.' Holiness removed is a frightful place for those, that are called by His Name. Read here in this verse, "My beloved.' How does the bride of Christ, HIs beloved, cast off, remove, lose, that very that brings them unto Him, HOLINESS? 'For without holiness no man shall see the Lord.' Is the longing to be holy, as He is holy, named among us? Are we so content in this world, are we at one with carnal Christianity, at ease and more like Laodicea? I pray not! But the idea of so much sin, so much iniquity mounting up before the Lord; not only in our nation and families, but in the church, the very image of our holy flesh passing off of us, is horrifying. That one thing that keeps us in Him and like Him, holiness eroding away.
The word holy and the pursuit of it is a hard thing to find in the church today. Whether what's preached or taught, explained, and prayed for, and vows to 'be holy, as He is holy', is all hard things to find among the body of the His beloved today. We have lost this word from our conversation, prayers and thoughts. A good idea would be to return to meditation on 'holy'. Pure adoration in worship, is to behold and adore God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. In this silent worship, the mind and heart grasp the holiness of God. Seeking to rise up to its level before God; not bring God down to our level. Robert McCheyne said, 'A glance at Christ will save, it is the gazing at Christ that sanctifies (holy)'. Gaze at Him and 'behold the Man, the Son of God'. Seek to make sure that the body of Christ is holy and pure and undefiled.
'Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?' Those who are holy; clean hands, pure heart, tongues not speaking lies, nor thoughts impure and wretched. A search and longing for real revival is a return to holiness. The very testimonies of great revivals long ago, is the restoring of holiness as a priority. A banner over all of us as God's children and church should be this epitaph of the Old Testament, 'Holiness unto the Lord'. My brethren, pray for this restoration and return; seek it in your own life and those around you and let us be diligent to make the church holy, rather than just happy.
When was the last time you prayed for this? sought this among God's church? When was the last time you heard God's people speak of this? It is an empty void among too many today. Let us return and seek Holiness unto the Lord again, before its too late. O Father, make us holy as Thou art holy. For YOu dwell in the high and holy place, Whose Name is HOLY.
