prayer email - September 4
Greetings,
"And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the Lord: and His soul was grieved for the misery of Israel." Judges 10:16
Often we hear in prayer meetings, "Lord give us Your heart and mind. Break our hearts for what breaks Yours". And there are only a few passages that reference God's heart, and God's mind. The reference of God's soul is even more rare. But this verse references God's Spirit, His Divine soul and Spirit. And what is the description of it? God's Divine, heavenly, eternal, immortal soul is grieved. Grieved for the misery of Israel, His covenant people. And what shall we say is God's soul grieved over today? Is it His bride, His church, His people? Is it not grieved over His creation and what we have done to it and with it?
Everything that God has created has come under the curse of sin. Sin has assaulted and attacked nations, governments, homes, schools, families, society and even His church. Lives impacted eternally for their rebellion against God. The very God, Who loved them and created them for His glory. The very God, Who would have all to be saved and none to perish. This God, His soul is grieved for all that we have become.
We see this misery and sorrow of God's soul before the flood during the days of Noah. We see this same sorrow and grief over what Israel and Judah had become. And we see this same grief over our present world. He sits high and lifted up and looks down and beholds and knows the misery of men. Minds affected, hearts affected, lives damaged and ruined by the choices, living standards and rejection of the very One Who could redeem, restore and revive. Oh, that men would know and pray this prayer, 'Lord bring us to grieve over what grieves You.". Did not Moses? "God, oh, this people have sinned a great sin!" Did not Christ? "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do!" And what has your prayer and grieving been?
The one thing we know for certain, for our holy and faithful walk in Christ is, 'grieve not the Holy Ghost'. Grieve Him not in sin, in choices, in lifestyles, in neglect and sloth of duty. For if this grieving is upon us then the Holy Spirit is limited and quenched in His power to keep us and heal us and lead us. If we grieve Him, we are closer to Ichabod than Shekinah or Pentecost. But oh, if we maintain the same heart and mind and soul of God, we are at one with Him for His kingdom come and His will be done. We shall pray rightly, we shall pray in the Spirit, we shall pray prayers that matter eternally.
So, lift up your eyes and behold the grieving of God's soul upon the sons of men. See what we have become and where we are going in Scripture, prophecy and our times. Greater judgements, greater sins, greater evil, greater falling away, it compels us to pray more and more into His heart, mind and soul. Not just mouthing the words, but experiencing them, 'Thy will be done'. This requires of us to surrender, align with Him, and wait before Him. He will reveal His heart, mind and soul to those that wait upon Him. How God grieved over our lostness and saw in us, His grace and redemption. Deserved nothing, earned nothing, yet received everything in Him and through Him.
And at this time, it is the same path, way and prayer for those that remain lost during these dark days. It is the same for His kingdom's work to be done. IT is the same for our last hours of humanity to finish the task, carrying with us great grief and sorrow for what we have become and what we are. But knowing in Him, great grace and mercy to those of His redeemed and elect. For soon, all this shall pass away, and then no more grief, no more sorrow; just bliss and full joy and Divine love with Him for ever more. "Oh, what a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see. And look upon His face, the One Who died for me." But until then. . . I give myself unto prayer with great sorrow and grief of soul over what we are in His sight.
The hour is late, the need is great, pray so as to prevail.
