PRAYER EMAIL - 5/15; FORGOTTEN & FORSAKEN

 Greetings,
"What burden?  I will even forsake you, saith the Lord."   Jeremiah 23:33
"Therefore, behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you, and I will forsake you. . . "Jeremiah 23:39

What does one do when God pronounces, "I will forsake and forget you"?   It is one of the most  horrible utterances from the Lord.    And how much more is this horrifying for an individual, when God speaks directly to them; or what shall we say for a nation? or for a church?

The reciprocal lessons throughout the bible are in front of us here in this passage of Jeremiah 23.  Reciprocal Scriptures is when God says He will directly do what the people have done or are doing to Him.   Throughout all of Jeremiah we see the one warning, 'I'll forsake you, because you have forsaken me".   So because the people have done this, God will now do this back to them..  This comes from men sowing sin and rebellion against the Lord.  For that which we sow, we reap; and that which we do, is done unto us.

There is, of course, a positive, expression found in the Scripture.  The great promises hold great hope for us: "If we abide in Him, He abides within us"; "if we draw nigh to Him, He draws night to us".  We love these positive responses of God.  But few are willing to apply and understand the negative ones, for they are just as true as well.  'If we forget God, He will forget us"; and "If we forsake God, He will forsake us".  Do you know these things?  Are you aware of the works of God, the words of God and the will of God?  Do you know these edicts that God has spoken and declared to nations, to individuals and to His Own people?

It is widely agreed that our nation is guilty of these two great sins: forgetting God; and forsaking God.  We understand that lost people will do this; it is acknowledged, for this is their nature.   But what about God's people, what about the church?  Are we living in obedience? are we practicing daily, holy living?  As Christ spoke to the 7 churches, and He said, 'this I am well pleased with. . . .but this I have against you.'  Are we found to hear from Him, of that which is wrong within our daily lives, within the church life, as well as the things that please Him?  Can we hear, 'I will never leave you or forsake you'; as well as 'Come out from among them and be ye separate.'   Many will cling to the promise offered, but reject the direct command to come out from among them.  We choose the one, and neglect the other.

This much is true, the church is as guilty of forsaking and forgetting the ways, word and will of God as the nation.  For as the church goes, so goes the nation.  The church is forsaken by many within the population across North America, and this forsaking was long before covid.  Attendance, support, tithes, and labors for the kingdom of God, was ebbing dangerously low before covid, and without a real revival, probably will not recover.   Mind set of those belonging to church, have already accepted that they can live before God according to their will and ways and forsake God's mandates.  They can pick and choose what they will do and not do, and feel that they will not suffer consequences of sowing and reaping for these choices.

Holiness is abandoned and the command to be as God, is utterly rejected and forsaken by the thoughts, practices and hearts of many of God's people.  Is this because they do not know to be holy? or is this because the church takes such an unholy mind set and practice in this present world?  We definitely choose carnal over spiritual, and flesh over holiness.   They have the attitude to expect to sin, and they expect and accept to live haphazardly for Christ.  This is not true Biblical Christianity.   There is multiple issues here that must be identified and addressed.

1.  To me, the bottom of this concern is, 'Will a true child of God forsake and forget Him?'  Even though, we know and read of backslidings; of failure; of sin; those that testify of Christ rise up out of the dust and seek Him.  It seems to be a perpetual seeking; it is a birth from the Spirit.  I cannot grasp a child of God to utterly forsake and forget Him. I believe it to be impossible.  Yet for their backsliding, there is heavy price to pay both now and in regards to rewards at the judgement seat of Christ.

2.  The failure of the church to properly disciple Christians, is a major issue.  The pursuit of holiness seems like a foreign discussion.  Oh, that holiness may once again be restored to the bride, for these days ahead.  hear the Word, 'be ye holy, for I am holy'.  It is without discussion, or proxy consideration of leaders, or the church body.

3.  Intimacy, and prayer is largely shortchanged, because of selfishness that is given to our time, our interest.  Failure to die to self is behind this, which brings us back to 'did we die to self, did we pick up our cross, are we following Christ'?

This much is certain, God is not at fault here; never has, He cannot be at fault.  Our forsaken and forgetting Him is the issue, not God's.  OH, that we may understand this before time runs out.    How much longer can we go, or last, having forsaken and forgotten?  A clear call for restoration and revival is needed; yea, a reform to biblical standards of God's Word, will and ways.   Enough already, from the church and Christians, and return to Him with all your heart, mind and body and renew your covenant before Him to be His and His alone.   Time is of the essence.
