THE ACTIVITY OF GOD IN THE BIBLE - AMOS & OBADIAH & JONAH & MICAH

 The Activity of God

Going through the Bible, book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, phrase by phrase and word by word to give attention to the following:
--the Names of God;
--the word & deeds of God;
--the sayings of God;
--the attributes of God;

Too often the churches weakness and the Christians weakness is found in this one sin, 'we do not know God'.  We have not studied the Bible, nor Him to learn more of Him.  Seeking that this might be a help for myself and others in this pursuit that each of us 'may grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord.

4:7      And also I have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest:  and I caused it to rain upon on city, and caused it not to rain upon another city:     God withholds rain;  God causes rain upon one city, place, but not another;
4:8      so two or three cities wandered unto one city, to drink water, but they were not satisfied:  yet have ye not returned unto Me, saith the Lord.     God was not returned unto;  And God said/spoke;
4:9      I have smitten you  with blasting and mildew:  when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the palmerworm devoured them:  yet have you not returned unto Me, saith the Lord.      God smote their crops with destruction; God is not returned unto; And God said/spoke;
4:10    I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt:  your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils:  yet have ye not returned unto Me, saith the Lord.     God sent pestilence;  God slew young men;  God made camps to stink and come up into their nostrils;  God is not returned unto;  And God said/spoke;

5:12     For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins; they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate3 from their right.     God knows their transgressions and mighty sins;  God details how they impact others;

5:22      Though ye offer Me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them:  neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.     God offered burnt offerings and meat offerings;  I will's of God to not accept them;   I will's of God to not regard them;

1:15      For the day of the Lord is near upon all the heathen:  as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee:  thy reward shall return upon thine own head.     God's day;
1:16      For as ye have drunk upon My holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down,      God's holy mountain;  God sees and knows what they did;

JONAH
Chapter 1
1:1      Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,      God's word comes to His prophet;   And God said/spoke;
1:2       Arise, go to Nineveh. . . and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before Me.     God gives directive to arise and go and cry against it;   God states that their wickedness is come up before them;
1:3      But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord . . . to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.     God's Presence fled from (2);
1:4       But the Lord sent out a great wind into the sea and there was a mighty tempest in the sea     God sends wind and tempest against them;
1:6      What meanest thou, O sleeper?  arise, call upon thy God, if so be taht God will think upon us, that we perish not.     God is to be called upon;   I will's of God to think upon us that we perish not;
1:9       I fear the Lord, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.      God is to be feared;  God made heaven, earth and sea;  God is God of heaven;
1:10     the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.     God's Presence fled from;
1:14       We beseech Thee, O Lord, we beseech Thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood:  for Thou, O Lord, hast done as it pleased Thee.    God is to be besought (2);  God sees and hears their cry and need;   Please God;  God does as He pleases;
1:16      Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the Lord, and made vows.     God to be feared;  God sacrificed to;   God hears and knows their vows made unto Him;
1:17      Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah.  And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.    God prepared fish;  Messianic prophecy of 3 days and nights as Christ;
Chapter 2
2:1      Then JOnah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish's belly,    God prayed to by His servant;
2:2      I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and HE heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and Thou heardest my voice.      God is cried to in affliction;  God heard him (2);
2:3     For Thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about:  all Thy billows and Thy waves passed over me.    God cast him into deep;  God's billows and waves passed over him, Glod's judgement;
2:4      Then I said, I am cast out of Thy sight; yet I will look again toward Thy holy temple.     God's sight;  God's holy temple;
2:6      yet hast Thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God.    God brought him up from corruption;  God is the Lord God and his';
2:7      when my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord and my prayer came in unto Thee, into Thine holy temple.       God is remembered;  God receives prayer from His servant;  God's holy temple;
2:9       But I will sacrifice unto Thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed.  Salvation is of the Lord.     God is sacrificed unto with voice of thanksgiving;  God vowed before, to; God is salvation, Salvation is of the Lord;
Chapter 3
3:1      And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying,      God's Word comes to God's prophet;   And God said/spoke;
3:2    Arise, go unto Nineveh, . . and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.   God gives directive to arise and go and preach to them;   God bid him what ot preach;
3:3       according to the word of the Lord.    God's word is obeyed;  And God said/spoke;
3:5       So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast,       God's Word of warning is believed;
3:5 - 7     God's word is obeyed by all;
3:8      But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God:  yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands;    God is to be mightily cried unto;   God sees and knows if men repent from their evil and violence;
3:9       Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from His fierce anger, that we perish not?       I will's of God to turn and repent;  God's fierce anger;
3:10       And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that He had said that He would od unto them; and He did it not.      God sees the works that they repented of evil way;  God repents;  And god said/spoke;  God did not bring judgement upon them;
Chapter 4
4:2      And he prayed unto the Lord, and said, I pray Thee, O Lord, was not this my saying, . . . for I knew that Thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest Thee of the evil.     God is prayed unto; God hears prayers; God is gracious, merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness;  God repents of evil that He may do to men;
4:3      Therefore  now, O Lord, take I beseech Thee, my life from me;      God is petitioned to takes his life from him; God is besought;
4:4      Then said the Lord, Doest thou well to be angry?     And God said/spoke;  God asks a question;  God knows he is mad (intent);
4:6       And the Lord God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief.       God prepared gourd;  God made it come up over him;
4:7      But God prepared a worm, when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.        God prepares worm to smite the gourd;
4:8      And it came to pass when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind;     God prepares east wind to afflict JOnah;
4:9       And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd?      And God said/spoke;  God asks a question;  God knows his intent;
4:10      Then said the Lord, Thou hast had pity on the gourd;     And God said/spoke;   God knows his intents (pity);
4:11      And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city,         God asks a question; God spares city;  God knows what is within the city of people and how many; Omniscient;

1:9      for he is come unto the gate of My people, even to Jerusalem.    God's people;
1:12      but evil came down from the Lord unto the gate of Jerusalem.     God sent evil down upon Jerusalem;
1:15      Yet will I bring an heir unto thee;     I will's of God ot bring an heir unto them;
Chapter 2
2:1      Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds!     God pronounces Woe to those of iniquity and evil;
2:3       Therefore thus saith the Lord; Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks;    And God said/spoke;   God devises evil against them;   God tells them shall not escape it;
2;4       IN that day . . . WE be utterly spoiled:  HE hath changed the portion of My people:  how hath He removed it from me! turning away He hath divided our fields.    God declares of that day;   God people's portion changed;  God allows removing of it;  God allows dividing of fields;

2:6    God gives directive for them to prophecy not;
2:7       O thou that art named the house of Jacob, is the spirit of the Lord straitened?  are these His doings?  do not My words do good to him that walketh uprightly?      God asks 3 questions;  God's sprit straitened; God's doings; God's words do good to those that walk upright;
2:8      Even of late My people is risen up as an enemy:      God's people rise up as an enemy;  God sees and knows what they do;

3:2 - 3   God reveals what they are and what they do;
3:3    Who also eat the flesh of My people     God's people are destroyed;
3:4       Then shall they cry unto the Lord, but He will not hear them:  He will even hide His face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.    God is cried unto;  God foretells what shall be;  Omniscient, Omnipresent;  I will's of God to not hear them;  I will's of God to hide His face from them;   God's face hidden;

3:7       for there is no answer of God.     God refuses to answer them;
3:8      But truly I am full of power, by the spirit of the Lord, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.    God's Spirit is power, judgement, might and power to declare to His people their transgression and sin;
